A wonderful collaboration between artists at the vanguard of ambient music. Especially satisfying to hear Visible Cloaks' futuristic sound design colliding with blissful figures synonymous with the Japanese ambient sound of the late 80s and early 90s. Essential!
Favorite track: Toi.
serenitatem, the fifteenth installment of RVNG’s intergenerational FRKWYS series, joins Visible Cloaks with Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano, trailblazers of the Japanese ambient music scene in the 1980s and 90s. While the music excels on an environmental level familiar in the collective’s individual works, serenitatem reaches unseen stratums — a pure synthesis of artistic vision, technological sophistication, futurist ambition, and, occasionally, ancient polyphony.

This album (& Hill, Flower Fog) sound almost like someone just kind of deedling around with synthesizer settings - a big wash here, an oo-OO pulse there - and suddenly you've lost all sense of time and the album is over and you're putting it on again. Effortless effort. (Synth 1 cannot be selected as a favorite track, which is a crime. It hits like a tidal wave.) Mister Meows
